By now you've probably heard or read about Green Building. There is a great deal of buzz in the media and now you're not sure how to sort it all out. At Timm Construction we have been building Sustainable "Green" Projects long before it became a hot topic with regard to Energy and Environmental savings.
In the mid-1970's Timm Construction Company introduced a home buliding process to Northeast MIchigan called
Panelization. This process greatly reduced the onsite waste created by "stick-building" homes at the jobsite due to the fact the floors, walls and trusses were all manufactured in a climate controlled indoor environment. All building materials could easily be optimized to fully utilize the length of every building material used whether it be a 2x4, 2x6, etc. Now with panelization, homes and light commercial buildings can be panelized and set at the jobsite with a minimal amount of waste generated. As an added benefit, the process also is much faster than stick-building, often saving weeks or months on the project schedule allowing the owners to start enjoying their new home or office much sooner.
In 1978 we implemented a low-slope roofing product called
Duro-Last. Decades had past in which commercial buildings used black rubber roofs that had a short life-span and required constant repair work with non-environmentally friendly products. Duro-Last roofs made building owners decisions 'easy' in that they now could have a white roof that reflected the heat (sun) in the warm summer months
reducing the cooling load requirements, while maintaing a much warmer facility in the cooler months of the year. In the end, it provides year-round savings in the form of lower energy costs.
Duro-Last roofs also last much longer (with guarantees) and are much more durable with no maintenance requirements making economic sense as well. Today, Duro-Last is still the roof of choice and is installed throughout Michigan by TRC Roofing.

Since 1993 we have used
NuWool recyled cellulose insulation in new homes, remodeling projects and commercial buildings. This eliminates drafty areas around switches and outlets in the home, which are common air-infiltration areas. Higher R-values in the walls and ceiling result in lower heating and cooling costs. NuWool, supplied by Bay View Insulation, is now a standard insulation product for many other builders in Northeast Michigan. This helps keep the heat where it belongs (inside in the winter months and outside in the summer months).
In 1995 we introduced
ICF Foundations to Northeast Michigan through Michigan Concrete Walls. It's energy saving attributes that were once overlooked now have become a sought after for new foundations, regardless if the home or buiding has a full basement or a crawl space. It is drier and much more energy efficient. It's return is felt in the form of comfort and savings by homeowners everyday.
In 2005 we brought Direct-Exchange
EarthLinked Geothermal heating and cooling to our area through ECR Michigan. The first installation was at our own office facility - we believed in the product so much that we were our own first customer. It has since brought a tremendous return to our clients in the form of lower heating and cooling costs and much more comfortable living areas. Plus - no harmful Emissions are generated inside or outside using EarthLinked Geothermal. Future generations and the environment will thank you for it too.
